Matooma launches IoT service over 3G

French M2M start-up Matooma has launched MatooWan, a managed IoT service making use of the 3G networks of Orange France, Bouygues Telecom and SFR, reports Le Figaro. The company has tested the new service with five pilot companies, including Legrand for a smart home device for older people, photo booth network Photomaton, Europ Assitance and Securitas. It will be marketed in earnest next year.

Co-founder Frederic Salles said that after 3 years the business is turning over EUR 3.4 million and expects to be in profit in 2015. Montpellier-based Matooma currently handles over 100,000 devices for 1,200 customers and is adding around ten clients a week.

Separately, France Mobiles writes that Matooma has signed agreements with Zayo France and US server provider Nutanix, and that it has held talks to work with Sierra Wireless and KPN. The company has reportedly decided to open an office in New York, to be followed by Madrid and other promising cities.
