Sunsetting of 2G and 3G Technologies
As previously communicated in March 2023, French operators have announced the gradual sunsetting of 2G and 3G networks.
Sunsetting dates for 2G and 3G technologies communicated by French operators:
Bouygues Telecom: Bouygues will phase out 2G technology according to the following schedule: Starting on 15 November 2026, as a preparatory measure, in an initial area limited to Bouygues Telecom network antennas deployed in the territories corresponding to the following municipalities and postcodes: BREST (29200), GUIPAVAS (29490), NANCY (54000 and 54100) and VANDOEUVRE-LES-NANCY (54500).

From 1 December 2026 until 15 December, as part of its rollout across mainland France, and by the end of 2029 for 3G.
Orange: In mainland France, from 2026, Orange will shut down its 2G network in several successive waves in nine departments in the south-west: 31 March 2026: in the urban area of Biarritz, Anglet, Bayonne (Basque Coast 64), 12 May 2026: in the Landes (40) and the rest of the Pyrénées-Atlantique (64), 9 June 2026: in Ariège (09), Haute-Garonne (31), Gers (32), Lot (46), Lot-et-Garonne (47), Hautes-Pyrénées (65) and Tarn-et-Garonne (82).

From the end of September 2026: 2G will be permanently discontinued in the rest of mainland France. By the end of December 2026, 2G technology should therefore have completely disappeared from Orange's entire mobile network in mainland France, with 3G following suit by the end of 2028.
SFR: by the end of the year 2026 for 2G and by the end of the year 2028 for 3G.
Following the discontinuation of these 2G and 3G technologies, connected devices not compatible with more recent cellular technologies will no longer be able to connect to the mobile network of the aforementioned operators.
These technological evolutions being independent of Matooma, the company cannot be held responsible in any case for the service interruption linked to the closure of these technologies.
This notification aims to allow you to anticipate and prepare for the technological transition of your equipment within your entity before the aforementioned technical shutdown dates. We invite you to approach the manufacturer of your equipment now to verify their compatibility with 4G and/or 5G technologies, the protocols used, to test, and to validate the operation of your equipment with SIM cards provided by Matooma on these technologies.
